Anamorphic

A video technique that uses rectangular (wide) pixels to store a widescreen image to standard 4:3 aspect ratio. It was originally devised for widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio television sets, thus eliminating the letterbox effect (black bars at the top and bottom of the screen).
