Aspect Ratio

A term that is used to describe the width-to-height ratio of an image. Traditional analogue TVs had an aspect ratio of 4:3; i.e. for every 4 points across the width, there are 3 in height.

Modern widescreen and HD-Ready televisions have aspect ratios of 16:9, which offers the best possible image for watching films.
