Contrast Ratio
The measurement of range between the brightest (whitest) and darkest (blackest) points on a screen. The higher the contrast ratio, the greater the ability to show subtle colour details and tolerate extraneous room light. A high contrast ratio gives a good looking, rich, deep picture with excellent shadow details.
A ratio of 500:1 gives a medium contrast, whilst a ratio of at least 1200:1 is required to give a high contrast.
