Progressive Scan

A type of display used by some televisions and projectors in which all the horizontal lines in a frame are displayed at the same time, rather than line by line, delivering a flicker-free, smoother image that stays sharp during motion. Traditionally, a system of interlacing was used, where rapidly refreshed horizontal lines were interchanged to recreate the overall image.

1080p (1080 lines of vertical resolution with progressive scan) is sometimes referred to as "Complete High-Definition".

Progressive scan is also used for scanning and storing film-based material on DVDs.
