Rear Projection Television

A specific type of television that works by beaming an image from an internal projector to the inside surface of the screen, directed by a series of lenses and mirrors.

One of 3 different types of projector may be used:

Rear projection televisions are significantly cheaper than their flat-panel counterparts (plasma and LCD TVs) and their display size can be extremely large - up to hundreds of inches. However, they are much bulkier than flat-panel televisions, have smaller viewing angles, and are more susceptible to glare.
